post DIY and custom paintjobs (please)

I'm looking for a little inspiration for my upcoming spring facelift. The clearcoat's shot on the hood, there are dings and scratches everywhere, and I couldn't possibly make it look any worse. I already have a plan, mostly involving lots of sandpaper, tape and rollers. Possibly some more diamond plate. I'm leaning towards white with black and red trim; I'm not set on a final look, though. I'm currently sporting weathered black paint and soft 8 wheels with spice hard top and interior.

Surely there are a few vets around here with a good collection of CJ/YJ/TJ paint jobs? I've seen various examples of Rustoleum jobs across the internet, but seeing a certain color or scheme on a Mustang or Beetle isn't cutting it for me. Anyone want to share?

thanks!

(I didn't get a lot of replies in the picture request forum - let me know if this is off base here)

Looks I've been diggin lately:

also I remember a thread where someone here put gloss flames on the hood of a flat black YJ/CJ conversion... that's what got this all going!

Here is a link or two to my paint job... I ordered the base/clear off of ebay for something like $100 and my friend shot the first clear with pearl. I goes from titanium silver to purple/orange and pink... I like it although a buddy says I'm a fairy to drive such a shiney jeep

Oh yeah, nice!

I did up a 79 Goldwing using the "Trucks" "Copperhead" paint colors... Almost the exact same. Sometimes I wish I used it instead, but the ebay paint was just too cheap to pass up.

I'm not gonna lie, after seeing mcgann454's jeep when doing my build, I had to clean my pants, then I decided to do mine just like it. I used an acrylic enamel single stage from www.paintforcars.com. The price was right! I love it, and the paint is extremely durable. Oh, and I did it myself with a HVLP gun from lowes in my garage.

before herc

This is not how I painted my Jeep. But I may try it in the future. There's an interesting write up on painting with a roller in this thread.

Thanks for the comments! It does help to have a brother with a paint service. Only cost me the paint at shop cost, about $85. Had to swap some service for the labor though.

I've painted a few things in my day. My father used to hate when I'd clear out the entire garage for two days while I painted..... until it came time to repair HIS truck: http://riggem.dcssites.com/taho_tailgate.html

Anyway, here is a few summers ago when the YJ was stock. Repainted the hood and fenders:

Now its lifted, got some red full doors that I painted to match (the insides are still red and people seem to get a kick out of it):

Can anyone see the deer in the picture?

I always use Dupont chroma base and transtar clear coat with a LPHV (low pressure high volume) gravity fed Finex paint gun. (Nothing fancy. Finex paint guns are between $100 to $200 depending on model.)

And don't bust my nuts about all the chrome on the nose. All the inserts are painted black now and I have an XRC8 winch on the way. The chrome door hinges are staying as is, though. Deal with it.
