Everyone doubts the 2.5. I have an 89 2.5 stock gears and axles. And I'm moving 35s just fine. I can maintain 65 on the highway. On a bad long hill with a head wind I'll drop down to 55-60 but with a lifted jeep you should know that slow amd steady wins the race. It's all about how you drive it. When I upgrade my axles I'll be re gearing to 5.13s but that's only because I'd have to re gear anyway. And for the fact that the lower the gears the better the crawl. I love my 2.5. Would I like more power sure. Do I need it. Absolutely not. The 2.5 is a work horse. Itll run forever If you take care of it. I have a friend with a 90 2.5 and he has 280,000 miles on his motor and it still has perfect compression. If I were to do a frame up I wouldn't waste my time doin the 4.2/4.0 swap. I'd just do a Amc 304. Just my .02
Totally skipped a page. Sorry op nice Cj5 a buddy has one but he paid way to much for what he got. The kid was an idiot and didnt wait for me to come with him to look at it. He paid 3500 for it with soa in the front and 2" leafs and a 3" bl in the back. Now he can't even sell the thing for 1500 bucks.
I tried telling him that. He just doesn't want to put money into it. It's a solid jeep but the po had cut and welded the frame so it would work with the home brewed lift. I told him to just part it out. The Amc 304 only has 60,000 original miles on it and the tub is mint.
