i have an 88 yj and i live in texas and i don't use the a/c b/c i never switched it over to R34A and i would like to take off the compressor but i don't know the size of belt or if it would make a difference??? any help thanx
yes it is a different belt. There is also one of the idler pullies that you will not use. You can take it off or just go around them. If you decide to go to on board air you already have the main compont. All you will need is a oiler, separator, air lines, chucks, pressure switch and maybe a tank.
If your Jeep has V-belts I think it would be easy to remove the compressor... you would need a belt for just the alt. on that side instead of both the alt. and compressor. I removed my AC stuff inside the Jeep, but left the compressor because I want to convert it to OBA next summer.
My compressor on my '88 froze up and I took it off. Went to a yard and got an alternator bracket off a retired mail jeep to mount the alternator up. New belts had to be fitted.
