Nice setup Hackle!

You mind me asking what ballpark that setup cost you? I just had a horid time finding local guys that had the know-how *and* a reasonable price. I even inquired about a roll-cage and the guy said $3K...

I had Hunter do this in two stages first he built the front bumper and the hoop about 8 months ago that was about $800. The fender protection was about $350. I also had him build up the cage for about $500. Next step when I get some more money is to do the rear fenders.

I have the rocker guards from Poison Spyder. How hard is it to spray a little primer and black paint? I used that bedliner stuff from Duplicolor and so far it's held up great! When it comes to items like rockers, I prefer to paint my own parts. That way I can "touch-up" any scrapes that I might cause when wheeling.

It's not hard (and it wouldn't be for PS either)....but it shouldn't be necessary at that price.

When I spend that kind of money, I expect to be able to install it from the box, not have to prepare it. Same goes for bumpers.

I'm not knocking the product, they're good stuff and I had planned on buying them (see them listed in my sig)....but a local guy I've been in contact is willing to work with me on fab'ing some up the way I want them...at a much lower cost. So if that can be worked out, I'll pass on the PS rockers.

I think they come unpainted so they don't get messed/scratched up in shipping.

Possibly, but if so, it's a pretty poor excuse. Proper care in shipping would prevent scratches. If I owned a house, I'd bet it that what it all comes down to is cost.

I'd guess it also saves them alot of time not having to deal with it...they can crank more out per day/week if they don't have to worry about painting them.

If they paint them ..... Then just about everyone buying them would expect them to last forever and look just like the jeep paint... Not going to happen and you can go get them painted to match your rig.... Way to may picky people on paint....

Update

The ones shipped were CJ ones, not for the YJ.

New ones are on the way. It was fun cutting up the sheet metal only to find out that "wow, these holes don't even line up..." Did I mention that I already had them Line-X'd the other day? Guess I am out the $150 for that...

Ouch, that sucks. You might be better off selling them for a slight loss to a CJ owner than sending them back.

They forgot to ship me the replacement fenders until I emailed them asking what the deal was.

They already have your money, so why should they care.

Sorry for the snide comment, but poor customer service really ticks me off. We (the consumers) are the ones who decide if their buisness is a success or failure.

ok, I'll get off my soapbox now

sounds like my lift kit adventure. also my quadratec fender adventure i ordered both fenders from them took 2weeks to get to me only to find out the left one was damaged, waited 2 weeks for them to pick it up then 2 more for the other one to arrive only to find out it was also damaged. so the cycle restarted and 8 or so weeks later i finnaly had my 2 fenders.

I totally agree, I guess I kind of expected a little more from a smaller company like Poison Spyder. I intentionally didn't request a discount or anything extra for my trouble, so I could decide whether or not to buy anything from them again. I know if I f'd-up on my end, I would do a little extra something to make up for it... I know that accidents happen, but I got the impression that I was putting them out by getting the correct fenders shipped to me.

I am going to be royally pissed if there isn't, at the least, a small $1.50 sticker in there for my trouble.

Here you go Devious...

Still needs a few more bolts down where it connects to the well, closest to the firewall. Once I get my broken front axle shaft back and running later this week, I will back it out and get some full side profile shots to give a better perspective.
