Pointed or Rounded Uppers?????

I bought used uppers - didn't know to check the "right corners" as to whether there were round or pointed.... and from what I learned talkin to a catalog guy - my top, which has aftermarket "supertop" (I've concluded) harware & top will only fit right with the "rounded upper right corners" [on the soft uppers]...WTF, the guy who sold them to me seemed so cool, he helped me take off the old doors - cut em' off & even showed me how to break down my top....
the old windows were shot anyway, but now I may have to BUY more than I anticipated

Been going back & forth with tops - whether to go hard, soft, new, used.. whether to replace my windows, replace my skin...

I've decided that I like a soft and unless I get a killer deal on a NICE hardtop, thats what I'm doin - I liked the frameless California tops alot - but everyone sayd the guy is a creep?!?!?s

So my question, after all that ranting , is ... could I buy a replacement skin (Suoertop) with these doors? I mean the doors that I had were obviously original skins and they worked?!?!?!?!

Is the "point" that big of a deal?

yeah, people have been *****ing about the guy from california tops forever. i don't know if they make viking tops for the YJ, but check them out. it doesn't make sense to me that the supertop would use rounded uppers. it requires it's own hardware, but Bestop would just be losing money if everyone had to replace their doors as well as a soft top. and all the pics i can find of the supertop show squared-off doors

For the YJ's the supertops use rounded doors. THe factory hardoors will work or the soft doors with rounded cornders will definatly work. I dont know about the squared doors on the supertop. You can but a sailcloth top(squared corners)to go with your squared doors. The sailcloth is basically a factory replacement top. Or you can get rounded soft door tops. Do you need a new top anyway? I find that the supertops are easier to put up and down than the factory style, especially when youve got stuff in it that you dont want to get wet and you left the tpp down.

Previous owner, although he didn't beat the jeep - he didn't really maintain it (the way I do) either.....

My right & left door windows were cut & ripped, I needed to replace them.

One of my side windows is cut too - and they were never taken care of and are in terrible shape vision wise.
Also, although I have no leaks/tears - I see where the top is wearing at the windshield lip due to improper installation and its just a matter of time - I think. What is now a crease will be a hole, then a tear -

If your hardware is in good condition (bars arnt bent, surface rust can be fixed) you can but a replacement skin for it and save some money that way.
Im just trying to make sure i got it straight.
So you bought the jeep with a supertop on it, but it didnt come with soft uppers so you went out and bought used uppers, but they have the square corners not the rounded ones. You would like to know if the square corners will fit the supertop. You would also like to get a new top as the old one is torn/tearing/cant see out of it.

I just sold my old factory OEM soft top and hardware. It had the square uppers.

I bought full doors, and therefore needed to buy a Bestop Supertop to work with my full doors. I kept my lower half doors and hope to pick up a set of uppers from a Supertop or Sunrider on Ebay.

Speaking of Ebay, don't buy a top directly from Quadratec. If you've got the time and patience, you can get a brand new top for much cheaper. I just bought a new Supertop with tinted windows for $415. There are deals out there if you're not in a hurry to buy immediately.

Bought the jeep w/ supertop & soft doors - but cuts in the windows & sides.
Bought new uppers (squared corners) foolishly - My plan was to buy a replacement supertop skin - since I thought I had "new" doors.
I contacted a few venders & learned you CAN'T BUY UPPER SKINS without frames for Supertop - you gotta spend 250.00 for new frames too - thats BS!
So if I bought new uppers and the window gets punctured or sliced, I have to shell out ca$h for FRAMES & UPPERS again - absolute BS! man!

I have a supertop with the factory upper soft door/windows. Works just fine.

You might want to look into keeping/getting the plastic seal that attaches to the sides of the windshield to keep the water from coming in where the doors seal with the windshield though.

probably the best picture I have showing the square corners. They werent MADE to fit the supertop, but they do. It just pushes the top tighter against the frame, which IMHO is a good thing. The rounded supertop windows always bowed out on the highway.
