Please help, 92 YJ VSS missing when i bought it.

I just picked up this 92 YJ for my wife. The PO told me about its issues and neglect. I've been trying to get the speedo to work and found that the VSS was not even installed. The factory 3 wire connector is there and the housing that holds the gear inside the TC. The local auto part stores told me to use http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...n+speed+sensor but it doesn't fit and they have to order the other one from the mainland and charge me for shipping. It's a 2 wire with dual outputs ( electronic and cable). Does anyone know the correct part I need or a way to adapt something from a different model year. Junk yards aren't an option here in Hawaii. This is what is installed in my TC. It is held in with 1 bolt and a plate that has two tabs to lock it in position depending on the amount of teeth on the gear.

Sounds like you got one for a 1991 YJ. It is the only YJ model year with both the mechanical and electronic output. Your link seems to show the correct part. 3-pin VSS that should attach to your current gear assembly.

The OP will also need info on how to adapt his current 3 wire plug to the 2 wire connection on the VSS. I cant find the link currently.

I believe I now see what he is talking about, finally saw a pic of the backside of this new style vss, definitely will not adapt to the lower half gear assembly.

O.K., looks as though they quit supply the true three wire hall effect sensors and went back to the 2 wired switch style. Check this link for an illustration of such an item....
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1989-1993-Ch...6ff59c&vxp=mtr
Now these 2 contact/wire type should be able to be used. You will need to use the Blue and Brown/red wires from your existing OEM harness 3-wire connector and wire these up to the VSS shown in the link. The white/Black wire is not needed with this style sensor.
