Playing in the garage this morning (truss)

After recently yapping with Martin & finding out his Jeep doesn't fit "my mold" I figured I would make him another truss since the one I shipped to him didn't quite fit as I expected it would. No big deal though - another fellow Jeeper will make use of it (Dale/Weekender1969).

Anyway, I made at least some progress this morning before needing to get ready for my evening shift at work.

Drilling the spring plate truss holes was easy enough after I cut the plates to the new specs. I start with a relatively small bit & work my way up from there.

Looks to be ~34.5" between center to center of the outer ubolt holes I'd say Martin.

Here she sits, almost ready for the Miller (not Millertime, MillerMatic MIG )

I still gotta finish the center support brace, drill a few holes in that, & triple check everything before welding all the pieces together. Hopefully I'll finish it tomorrow.

Thanks Martin. I'm hopefull that this one does the trick.

I work the eve shift again tomorrow - so during the AM I should be able to finish the support brace cutting and drilling. Then after that's done, fire-up the MIG and start tact welding things and run some beads. Piece of cake.

The roll cage stuff is new to me since I have zero experiance with a bender & notching.

Good to hear it was your head banging the wall & not mine.

mine and dales....
apparently he had ever messed with a notcher either....and maybe never will again!
my poor old notcher, it has a hard life.....gets used hard, then left in the corner all oily, forgotten, until we abuse it again.
then start cursing it...

^^^ ^^^

O/T: But....funny thing happened first thing today. I went to move my bench grinder, which I haven't done in a few weeks, and low & behold, look what I found under it. Beer $$. $14 bucks worth.

BOT: Fired up the MillerMatic this morning & here's the progress. Not much left to do except finish the support brace, which should happen tomorrow. Aligning things without a jig took longer than I expected....oh well.

The pics above are of the 6th revision. It will be going on Martins Jeep.

Here's a pic of revision #4 IIRC. It is almost finished in the pic below.

I'm starting to work on revision #7 for the HPD30, and also working on revision #1 for an 8.8.

Here's a pic of one while I was playing on Sledge Hammer.

Joe, I know that you design these for SOA applications but I have a question...

Do you think this would work with a u-bolt flip kit?
