piss poor power

I have a '90 YJ with the 999 automatic in it. Because of the crummy gear ratio I don't have power worth a crap (motor is fine....) any CHEAP ideas to get the ratio down to something I can live with?

There's only one way to change the ratio in 2 high, which is what I assume you're talking about. If not, then a 4:1 kit for your tcase will do the trick for around $1000. If the problem is on the road, then the only thing you can do, aside from a different tranny, is re-gear the axles. That'll run ya about $250 an axle in parts. I think labor will run about the same.

I almost forgot. You could run smaller tires!

Has it always had lack of power? My 4.2 yj had a plugged converter and it just kept losing power over time. I had no idea that the converter was the problem until I had to get out the tow strap to get home one day.

I'm running 35"s with a 4.56 gear ratio, and the engine runs slightly higher than stock
