The pinion seal on my rear D35 diff has been leaking for a while. I put it off, but now its a very slow drip. I have the seal and a seal puller. Is there anything else I need or no? I heard there is a crush bearing, kind of like a fuse that you have to replace each time you do the seal and whatnot. My torque wrench only goes up to 100ft/lbs, and I think the specs for the pinion nut are 140ft/lbs.
My only doubts are the fact that my friend replaced the pinion seal on his D30 and either the nut backed off or he tightened it down too much and the bearing went- thus he drove it home and chipped teeth off of his ring and pinion gears.
So what should I know before I do this? Remove pinion nut, pull off yoke, pull out seal, and replace seal? Or is there anything else to it?
Thanks.
