pics of my YJ project - so far...

I bought this jeep in October of last year for $3500 and have been occasionally working on it ever since. It came with both a soft top and soft doors, a hard top and full hard doors, and a Holley carb. It already had the RC lift, tires & wheels installed.

Thanks to all of your help, I've been able to get a lot of things done. Here's some pics and descriptions of what I have done. My signature also lists a few other mods that I have done so far. Let me know what you think.

I installed an 8.8 LSD with 4.11's and disc brakes in March. This one has 60k miles and came out of a '99 Explorer. I also installed a **** AA SYE kit and a CV driveshaft.

In order to match the rear gearing, I swapped in a 4.11 D30 with 60k miles.

While I had everything out of the back end, I dropped and cleaned the tank. I also installed a TJ style gas cap setup.

While I had everything out from under the jeep, I decided to clean up the rust on the frame, underbody and suspension parts. I used POR15 on the rusty spots and then topcoated everything with some rustoleum. I also gave the entire underbody a good coat of rubberized undercoating.

While nosing around in a local auto salvage yard, I found this bumper. I only paid $40 for it. All I did was sandblast it and gave it a coat of paint.

At the same salvage yard, I found these seats out of an '03 Kia Spectra. Not an exact fit, but they had some nice adjusting features on them. I fabbed up some new seat brackets to make them work.

I just repaired some rust on the front left fender and repainted it and I'm getting ready to do the same on the front right fender. The paint was rubbed out with some NuFinish. I'll be doing a complete paint job next spring.

Here's some other pics of the Jeep.

The next project will be installing TJ flares and swapping the 3" lift springs for 4" springs. I'll post more as I do more.

Thanks for looking!

Steve

I ran this jeep last winter and the tires did real well in the snow and ice. They work well in just about everything but mud. At some point I'll probably go with a more aggressive tire but I have other things to finish up before any money gets spent on that.

It was actually pretty easy, but if you want to close off the hole behind the license plate, you'll need access to a welder.

The most difficult issue involved the hoses that run between the tank and the filler neck. For the most part, I used the TJ hoses. I had to cut some off the ends but they worked pretty well. On one of the hoses I used one end of the TJ hose and one end of the YJ hose. I spliced the two together using some copper tubing and some hose clamps.

I got all of the parts from the local salvage yard for $20. Plan on spending most of the day on this project.

Here's a link to some good info on this subject.

EDIT: I just noticed that the forum sensored my link. If you click on the link, you will not get the page because you need to change the URL and replace the *** with a$$ (but use a "s" in place of the "$".)

Hey phlodog - you're just up the road. My brother lives up your way and is working on his '87 as I type. He needed a new tranny so he's moving up to the AX15. Good luck with your purchase!

Thanks to all for the I'm pretty happy with the Jeep at this point, but there's always something else to upgrade or modify!!!

As you say, it never ends. There is always one more mod to do or fix something as it breaks. Such is the life of us Jeepers. Nice looking Jeep you got there.

Looks nice, lots of great work there.

Did you change out the whole fuel filler tube, or just the bezel? If it was the whole thing, do you know what year it's from? I think there was a change to the design one year that had a smaller vent tub.

THANKS
