Peugot to AX15 Conversion
So, I purchased an AX15 from a '92 XJ. My YJ is a '88 and came from the factory with the BA 10/5. Both vehicles have the NP231 T-case.
What am I looking at here? I am still doing my research, but I'd appreciate any tips from those of you that have done the swap. Also of note, it has the internal slave. I have seen that question asked a lot, so I figured I'd clear that up right from the start.
Links, suggestions, experiences, pics....all welcomed!

I'm in the same boat, moose. I have an AX-15 and NP231 from a 94 XJ sitting in my garage waiting to go in. I just need some fundage for the other parts Mine also has the internal slave...I may keep it internal just to save some $$, but I'm sure I'll be kicking myself in the *** if I do.
Richmond88YJ did a nice write up a while back on this swap. I know a lot of people have experience with this one, so hopefully you get a bunch of replies

you need a tacse also...
the ba10 has a 21 spline.. the ax15 has a 23 spline..
you coudl swap the imput gears.. but its a royal PITA and the part is almost as much as a good used Tcase.
other than that you need a YJ shifter, and new clutch kit.
You can use your old flywheel, but you need the clucth for a 90 YJ 4.2L ax15.

the tcase was not that bad when I swapped the input gear in.
Snap ring plyers and a torque wrench.
The ba10/5 uses 5 bolts to attach to the tcase and there's a plug in the spare hole in the tcase where a stud should be.
Have a look at the np231 rebuild process here:

So, if you had say, an 88 YJ with the peugot, and you got an AX-15 and tcase out of say a 90 YJ, would it bolt right up to the engine???? Just wondering my buddies replaced his peugot twice in a year.

Though I have no personal experience with that exact combo...I'm thinking yes.
But I dont think you would even "need" to swap t-cases but for the input gear, which is not that hard a swap plus while you have the case open you can inspect for wear and or replace other stuff/upgrade chains/learn about your case.

Clutch for a 90 YJ 4.2L ax15
New shifter
Am I missing anything?

You'll be $$ ahead if you'll convert it to external slave. The time spent to replace the internal in the future will make it worthwhile. You'll need an input bearing retainer, clutch fork, throwout bearing, and master/slave for a 94 tranny. The clutch disc and pressure plate are the same part number from 87 to 99. I would compare the input shaft size on the tranny to the one on the Peugeot. Mine was a direct swap into the pilot bearing for an 87.

I had heard that you also need to either get shims for the flywheel, or get a new flywheel altogether. I'm not sure about this, but I think that I saw it in a write-up somewhere. Anyone know for sure?

I'm using the flywheel that came on my 87. I haven't had any issues with it.

I have read to get the flywheel resurfaced, but no shims or replacement.
