pcv valve?

Other than the PCV valve on my 2.5 valve cover, what is the name of the valve on the rear of the valve cover?
And how often should it be replaced, I have about 145500 miles on my Jeep and I know I never replaced it. This weekend I seemed to have a lot of oil blowback from either the PCV and filler cap so I thought I would just replace everything.
Thanks.

Sure it's a valve?
Last one I worked on had a cartridge filter on it. Looked a little valve like I guess.

I'm also confused on this matter.
I have the book on the Jeep but it is vage. The picture shows valve cover with 3 outlets:
One on the front closer to the bumper, one in the middle (oil cap), one in the back.

I have oil cap and one in the back but it has a air filter cap. I figured that since the PO put a "cold air intake" it changed the tubes and where they are suppose to go.

Mine is losing oil also and want to fix the simple things first.

According to my catolog they show 2 on the valve cover one is a pvc and the other is a ventilation filter.I would guess if its clogged it will stop working. Its not that expensive to change.Like 8.00 new

That would be the breather element according to napa.
You can spray the hose with carb cleaner or replace it, the filter is around 5 dollars.

Check out this post, http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f8/bl...9/#post9747906, I believe that's the "filter"/rear hose he's talking about.

The hose on the rear of the valve cover is just an intake, or rather a blowby vent for YJs

Thanks to the both of you for link and pictures.
Jmac, when you get a chance where does the hose closest to the oil cap run to?
If I read the link correctly it goes to the air cleaner. But the way that hose on yours drops down it does not look like it.

I will check when I get home from work, You'rr correct I don't think it goes to the air cleaner, What I remember from yesterday it connect to a steel tube, Maybe the tube makes it to the air cleaner.
I've had the jeep for about 5yrs and never paid attn, but I have only been a member of JF for a year and have a lot of catching up to do.

Took pics of mine at lunch.
the back is the ventilation filter???
and the front???
the one towards the front on the side goes to the air intake manifold.
I'm going to take it off and clean and replace that hose not sure what the PO was thinking with the electrical tape all around it.

The hose from the PCV valve should connect to a source of vacuum.

The filter in the back, I could only find at a dealership for $8 new. I checked every autopart store and none of them had it. When you get one also make sure to pick up some new hose for it because I hose was clogged with oil sludge stuff.

They sell those filters at autozone, there's an assortment of sizes too.
