A fuel injection setup may get you a couple MPG Probably not worth the initial cost though.

I'd probably take the 4runner for college since it's free (and $ is better spent on beer during those years) Then when you get out, buy yourself another Jeep. Although, I had an 87 wrangler when I was in college and the chix totally dig it.

lets see here...200mi per tank. 20 gal tank. 10 mpg.

umm...how are your brakes? If they're not adjusted properly in the rear, or rubbing in the front, your mileage will suck.
Tire pressure. Pump it up.

Driving style dictates about 30% of your mileage. Try really babying the heck out of first and second.

As for the FI conversion...I have 4.2 with tunable aftermarket FI and regularly see 14 MPG with 33x12.5's and crappy 3.07's, K&N, granny speed mixed driving. I'm sure if I got on the gas more than I do, I'd see 9-10 mpg nooooo problem.

One thing I forgot to mention in the post above is that some people might ask, "But what about my fuel pump with its plastic parts inside my fuel tank? Won't the acetone be corrosive to that as well?"

First off, no. The fuel pump parts are made of high grade plastic. You would be an old man with many grandchildren before it ate away even sitting in a bottle of pure acetone.

Secondly, since you're diluting it in gasoline, the process is even slower. Like your grandkids grandkids more like it.

By the way, 87 milliliter is what I found works best for me. Don't think adding more is better. If you add too much, you'll actually see your MPG go down. (Don't ask why.) If you plan on doing this, play around with it for a while. Try 75, then 85, then 95 milliliter and see which gives you the best mileage. (I made frequent trips going home from college, so it was easy for me to figure out exactly what combination gave me the best since I was always driving the same highway and same distance.)

what i did was just go out and buy a cavalier and parked the jeep in the back behind the shed and wait for the weekends to deplete the oil surplus

If Dad's buyin' yer gas, I reckon yer gonna love yer new Civic!!! If you were out on yer own, I'd suggest a Civic for yer daily driver, and hold the YJ back for the fun stuff, but it doesn't look like you've reached that point in life yet... So if the old man's footin' the bill, he's also settin' the rules! Nothing you do will ever bring that Jeep into the economy car range, so why pour time, money, and effort into a losing battle when eventually yer gonna have to go over to a econocage anyway?

I already said that he isnt footing the bill.

I use a credit card for simplicity, he gets the bill, i go to the ATM and take out cash to pay him with. It just avoids long waits to pay cash at the store and stuff, cuz DE is self serve..u have to walk in and pay...peopel get mad etc.

^ Really off topic, but why not get a credit card in your name to start establishing your credit for later in life? You seem pretty responsible (i.e. not spending more than you can get in cash).

a few more things to check out- make sure your e-brake is releasing properly, lose the hard top- if you have one, and lose any extra weight in the vehicle while driving. If you can lose the back seat, do so. I take off the doors and top, and backseat while I drive in the city, or short highway drives (up to 100 miles). Just some thoughts

I realize noone has seen this thread in 2 days, but has anyone though tof checking this fellow ignition timing?

It has been a while since I had to check it without the bypass, but it he is still running on the computer doesn't something have to be unplugged or jumpered to set the base timing? If it really has bee bored .04 over, the compression may have dropped (if the head wasn't shaved) and he may have to advance his timing to get the same efficiency as the original motor.

Just another thought.

Yes, the acetone trick works. But won't if the timing isn't right.
