papa says its time....

Hey guys, i love my jeep to death adn with all the work taht i have done to mine, adn the reasearch i have done, and the knowledge I have gained has made everything amazing. With gas prices on the way back up again, my dad brought me my gas bill (i have a credit card for gas) and it was 120$ for 12 days. I drive a mile to school, mile back, and a mile to work...+ maybe like 4 or 5 more a day. My dad knows i love my jeep, but he thinks its time for me to move on.

I know you guys are gonna say "we don ride jeeps for the gas, get a civic" i know its coming, haha but is there honestly anything i can do to limit my gas consumption ebsides the get a civic, or dont drive?

I have a 1990 with a rebuilt i6, rebuilt ax-15 tranny, and a rebuilt np231 t-case. It has all new tires, new vaccum lines everything. The carb has been leaned, everything is just dandy.

If there is anything, please let me know...i dont want to leave

ill never let go jack....etc

haha

thanks
Tim

I would agree here. With the rebuild and the fact that you are on 30's you shouldn't be burning that much gas, unless you really really like the skinny pedal.

Have you ever calculated your gas mileage? You should be getting 13 minimum, more like 16.

What carb do you have? Do you still have all the emmissions stuff?

I don't know what your emissions laws are like but consider getting a Webber or an MC2100, doing the nutter bypass, and giving it a tuneup.

I would not give the jeep up for anything.....what about working part time and paying cash for the gas??......then he can't say anything. But you should not be going thru gas like that. Is it his credit card or yours???? You will regret giving up the jeep

38.5" Boggers, 4.88 gears and I get at least 16mpg.

At a mile away, I'd ride a bike.

It costs me more like 40-50 to fill a 20 gallon tank... what I would suggest is calulate your actual gas mileage (in miles per gallon), see how low it actually is to determine if there actually is a problem, and if so how bad... and finally pay for your own gas so your dad can't tell you to get rid of it.

I am going to go way out on a limb here and ask you a dumb question if you don't mind. How much gas did you actaully pump into your gas tank? AND did you keep the receipts?

If my cipherin' is close: if you are paying $2.50 a gallon for gas then $120.00/$2.50= 48 gallons of fuel. 120miles driven (10 per day)/48 gallons=2.5MPG! That's simply not possible to eat up that much fuel without blowing the motor on the first day from ring wash, or blowing the base pan off for the same reason.

Im sorry, i was at work all afternoon. My apology.

Okay,.....I drive slow = first thing

I have the stock carb, but it is completely rebuilt, and has be tuned and retuned to all kinds of differnet things with no real affect.

I do work, I do pay for my own gas. I use a card for ease, then take out cash and pay the pops. I am going to college next year, last thing i need is to blow all my money on gas.

I do have the 20 gallon tank, and it does cost me 40$ to fill up

I have run the tank dry aat 204, 206, and 202 miles, so taht total is pretty accurate.

I have calculated my around town mileage many times and it is around 10-12.
If i drive 100% highway on a tank (trip to mall etc) I get about 15ish, but i have only calculated that one like 2 times.

I really am not sure exactly what the issue is

In DE i need to have 100% stock emissions, with no visual or technical alterations of any type.

once again, sorry for late replay, worked 2-10

Do you have a leak.

My ex had a blazer that had leaks from stones wedged between the tank and the frame. mostly leaked while driving.

Seriously, calculate the actual mile and gallons you are driving as well. it may surprise you. An I6 should get in the 14-16 range.

Try buyng gas elswwhere. (You're not buying alcohol/gas, are you? that would produce much lower mileage)
