Paint the frame

I want to clean & paint my frame a section at the time. I have some areas of rust to deal with first. The rust isn't too bad but I want to go ahead and do a decent job. I see a product called POR-15 advertised. Does it work? Can you apply it with a brush and then spary a top coat over it? Any suggestions? Note: I'll be using a rattle can!

in short yes

personally i just painted my frame a week ago and i used Eastwood's rust encapcilator
i've used it on every jeep i've had and it works amazing, better then por15 IMO
you paint it on with a brush or buy it in rattle can form which is about as easy as it gets
and then you can spray a top coat on if you want ( eastwood sells the stuff in different colors so you don't need to) , i sprayed rubberized undercoating on my whole frame and under the tub after i put that on. 1 QT did everything

Using a needle scaler to prep the frame will help remove the scaly rust.

I swapped my frame a year ago and painted the new (used) one with Duplicolor 'Truck Bed Lining' paint. It's still fine all over.

I throw in my vote for POR 15. I have been using it for years and it has performed well on all my trucks. The one warning I will say is to make sure you do spray on a top coat of rustoleum or some other spray paint while the POR 15 is still tacky. The problem is POR 15 is not UV safe and will fade and turn chalky in the sun. Learned that the hard way.

I use chassis saver from napa. After it cures it's rock hard and doesn't require primer, no rusty floorboards from it yet.

i like the rust bullet stuff. I bought it to use for some rusty spots on the frame. You dont have to do any real prep except to remove the loose rust.

Just had my "new" frame sandblasted and went the por15 route. Goes on easy with a brush and dries rock solid. Wear old clothes/shoes you won't mind throwing away after and wear gloves, this stuff does not come off!!
