Ok, should there be a hole there?

I was checking the oil on my Jeep ('89 YJ with a 4.2) and noticed a rather ugly hole in the top of the framerail right behind the driver's side motor mount. There's other factory holes in the frame, I was wondering if there was supposed to be a hole there that just got a little rough, or did something rot through? Anyone have a good picture of a solid YJ 6-cylinder framerail?

Sorry I didn' get a picture more quickly - work kept me kinda late over the past few days. This is the best picture I can get, any other angle there's stuff in the way of the camera. This is looking from the front of the engine rearward, the hole is pretty much in the center of the picture. Looks like it may have started where the brake line holder attaches to the frame. Looks pretty bad to me....

That looks really bad to me. If you decide to repair it (hopefully you will) you'll have to pull the motor and cut the bad section out and put some steel plate back over it. I would check the rest of the frame especially the rear upper shackle mounts.

One rear shackle mount has already been repaired, the other one is only just starting to be a little lumpy under the paint. The rest of the body is rust-free, just the frame is a little less than perfect. This winter or spring I'm pulling most of it apart anyway, if I can ge a welder by then I'll fix it then.
