My friend has a 88 YJ, 4cyl, and he keeps losing oil. The oil sprays all over his engine compartment and there is ussually a huge pool of oil in his air intake box, with his filter soaked in oil too.
I was thinking it somehow had too much oil pressure, and it was commin back up thru the intake tube. But i have know idea how it managed to spray all over the engine compartment.
Do a serach for blowback in the forums. There are a ton of suggestions most of which can be accomplished with a little time and a few dollars assuming the rings are not shot. The most common reason is clogged CCV valve or PCV valve and its common on that model Jeep.
Also if its all over the engine it could be valve cover gasket, oil cap in conjunction with clogged PCV and CCV valve. It has to release pressure somewhere. :brickwall
I fixed mine for around $20.00 and a day in the garage.
1. Valve Cover Gasket - $5.00
2. Oil Cap - $4.00
3. PCV Valve - $2.00
4. New Grommets - $5.00
5. RTV Gasket Sealer $4.00
6. Cold Beer- $10.00 (Optional)
No oil on engine and breather - Priceless
It's an XJ web site but it will apply to your engine. This worked for my YJ when I had it.
Edit: Whoops I just realized you have the 2.5L not the 4.0L. This link's for the 4.) blow by problem. Sorry.
