Great Job!! How does the length of the 3550 compare to the AX-5 and 15?

The NV 3550 case length is (16.750 inches). The overall length of the nv 3550 is 24.000 inches. The overall length of the ax5 is 22.500 inches. This is one reason why I am tearing down the transfer case I acquired. I will be installing a jb conversions super short slip yoke eliminator. And am inspecting for damage and repair as needed. And thanks for the response. The drive shaft that came with the transfer case I acquired for this conversion had been damaged by rocks, or whatever, so this inspection is pretty important as well as I will not be wanting to take it back out anytime soon. I will post pictures of the drive shaft that came with the transfer case, in a day or two and you will see what i mean. So, this will be interesting. The nv 3550 and the ax15 share the bolt patterns and dimensions.

I did that same swap about 2 years ago. and i love it.

FYI the bellhousing from the dakota is a litthe longer too, and the trany also as you know.
I gave Tim a call from Brown Dog Offroad, hes here on this site. and had him make me some new motor mounts to pull the motor forward that 2 inches i lost, to keep the length in the driveline.
I have some pics if its something your interested in.

Price is going to vary. It depends on how much of a bargain hunter you are, and what you are willing to pay, and waiting for the deals to surface. I live in Los Angeles, so there is a large base here, lot's of stuff scattered all around. Personally, I found the nv 3550 new in crate for 900.00 bucks. The 231 transfer case I found for 200.00 bucks, the guy had it sitting in his shop for several years as he bought an atlas transfer case and kept that one for a spare but for whatever reason he posted it, and i saw it an hour after he posted it online, and immediately drove over and bought it. He had tj flares also against the wall near the case, and talked him into throwing those in as part of the deal. These two items I found on www.craigslist.com Basically price you are going to pay can vary quite a bit. Some people have a good line on parts, friends with jeeps, etc. or ebay, lots of different sources. My source has been primarily craigslist, and jumping on a deal that I think is good immediately when it is posted. I will post the prices that I pay as I go along. But so far for what you have seen this is what I have paid.

Yes. Thank you very much for the input. I believe the nv 4500 pilot bushing makes up for that as far as the extra length on the bell housing correct? Or no? Or is it the shaft on the nv 3550 as well, or both?
As far as moving the engine forward 2 inches, that is also an excellent way to do it as well I have heard. I may do it that way, not sure yet, I am not at that point in the project quite yet. Yes though, you will not have to refit your drive shafts that way. It is inspiring to hear you are happy with it. Thank you.

Line that attaches to bottom of pump, it just slides off line when removing pump, and needs to be put back on line when putting pump back on.
