My buddy had problems on his 89 5speed, 4cyl with popping noise going from 1st to 2cd when you get on it. Seemed worse in a turn. Kept getting worse and started doing it in all gears. We checked everything ball joints, tie rods, ujoints, rear end. Finally decided it was either TC or tranny. Pulled TC first and this is what we found. Input gear and shift hub appear to be toast.
Can he use a TC from a 97 or 98 TJ with 4cyl motor? Will input gear be 21 spline and correct length? Any other differences to deal with?
