Not a Wrangler Guy, Forgive my Ignorance - Backspacing

As title states, I'm not a Wrangler guy, I'm posting for a friend. He just picked up an '89 and is in parts ordering mode. He's enlisted my help because I'm the mechanical one between the two of us. I've been reading through some older threads and I've found unclear answers. I'm looking to see what backspacing will be appropriate for his soon-to-be setup. I want to avoid rubbing at full locks and also at available flex. But that the same, I don't want his tires sticking out to next week.

89 YJ
2in lift springs
.5in lift shackles
31x10.5/15 Duratracs

Thank you in advance.

8" wide rims with 3.5" backspacing for those tires will be fine.

Owning a "Renegade" means being "Different"!

I figured as much on the 8" wide. 3.5" is more than I was anticipating. But that's why I asked!

Thank You!

I was about to ask the consensus on those. I found a set up Pro Comps that right up my friend's ally that are 3.75. I figured it would be a negligible difference but, again, not familiar with Wranglers.

Yeah 3.75 is more common on wranglers and with your 10.5 wide 31s it will be just fine.

Even less backspacing would work. When I first got my Jeep it had 30/9.50s on it with stock wheels (5.5" backspacing) and it barely rubbed at full lock. I'd say around 4-4.5" would work. For reference I am running 35/12.50s on 3.75" backspaced wheels with a skinnier-than-stock 8.8
