Not working/hooked up dash

So I got my Wrangler only about a month ago and there were a few engine problems that had priority in taking care of. Now that the Jeep is working great I have the issue of a not working/not hooked up set of dash lights.

I thought that it would be easy to figure out because I have a few wires hanging down under the steering wheel and I would just have to figure out which one was disconnected but after further inspection, none of them fit into each other or anywhere I can see.

If any 1991 YJ owner knows about these wires and what they might be for please let me know, I'm stumped, especially on the following first photograph, it is a large wired group and I dont know what it's for... It may possibly need a harness that is missing for it to fit to others but if anyone knows please help.

and these are also disconnected...

Let me go takes some pics and see what is pluged in to them and hopfully we can figure it out.
I also have not lights above the steering column but my stuff is pluged in from what I remember.

Thanks Andywear but I'm still really lost with respect to why my dash isnt working. Is there a fuse correlated with the dash alone? Every other electrical/gauge component works in the cab except for my dash lights.

... This may not have anything to do with my dash problem but does anyone have any insight as to what the hell the big honkin plug is in the first picture of the thread?!?!? It has a really unique hub on it as you can see. ... almost looks like a wall socket, but I doubt it's meant for a hairdryer!

Thanks, bluedaffy

What color are those wires going into the "hairdryer plug"?

Looks like the plug is so close to where the dimmer and light switch are.
Mine dimmer/light plugs are slim from what I can see.
Are you blubs burnt out and are the connections to the dimmer and light switch clean?
