noise from drive train

just bought a 95 wrangler rio grande that has a 91 4.0 ax-15 and np231 installed in it , it has a noise kinda a clanking noise from the transfer case/trans area , noise is there with a load or without , in gear or out of gear , gets faster with speed , not sure if it goes away after about 20 mph or just cant hear, put all four wheels in the air in and out of 4wd did not hear the noise , so only while in the ground for what ever reason, which kinda makes me think maybe u-joint idk, any thoughts would be greatful

Check them and see if they are loose. Also, check the oil level in your T-case.
