No start unless moving 4H shifter

94 yj 4.0 auto

Ok, had no problems at all until pulled in to gas station,
went to start it, no turnover, Lights, radio, door buzzer all working fine,

after looking under hood, went to start again, and I happened to move the 4H shifter and it started.

is there something with the shifter that would cause it to not start? or start?

jeep runs great, doesn't die, idles smooth.

THanks for any input!

I can't see the transfer case shifter having anything at all to do with that. Maybe you jiggled the column shifter also....neutral safety switch?

It has to be the switch. You need to get up under it and look at the NSS.

It looks like it but check your old one. You could have just a bad wire.

Ok, replaced the Neutral safety switch, still not starting.

It was starting by moving the 4H shifter, but started not doing anything, I then replaced the NSS, still nothing.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what to look at next?
