No fifth gear in 93 yj

Going from 4 to 5 and it was like putting it in neutral I'm thinking it must be some kind of issue with the top of the tranny fork ect. As when it went into where fifth should be there was no sound as in gears grinding or banging any info would help its a 4 banger so not sure what tranny it is thanks

The transmission is an AX5. There is a retaining clip that holds the fifth gear in place. It is a common issue for the clip to break and for the gear to move back on the main shaft it the transmission. You should be able to run it like that but you will not have 5th gear until someone pulls the trans apart and puts a new retaining clip in.
