Man I feel sorry for all y'all that live in states like that. Here in Florida, you could strap a lawn chair to a rolling chassis & never get a second glance from the law. Basically, it's run whatcha brung.

What about just driving through? Does CA enforce the equipment laws on out of state vehicles passing through? Not they actually would or would not but what does the law state?

I live in CA and never even looked into it. Got the jeep on 31s with stock flares, stuck out nicely, no problems. Went to 33 x 12.5 with tube fenders all around, haven't been hassled yet. I'm sure the law says it's a no-no, but cops don't really seem to pay attention to that stuff. They're more after rice rockets and such...

The key comment in CA is minimize spray. Anything that does minimize spray is legal. Hence mud flaps are legal scab ons. There is also the Tread shall not extend past the body rule. There is also the section that says ANYTHING the officer THINKS is unsafe. YMMV.

Officer discretion. If you're being a jerk on the road, you may get pulled over for a fix it ticket.
