no emissions

my jeep is missing most of the emissons stuff that i think it's supose to have.it was made in canada.the carb is new but it has no sensors or solenoids on it.the stock air cleaner is gone a it has a aftermarket one.it does have idle tubes in the carb.none of the vaccum switches are hooked up anymore.the oxygen sensor is still hooked up but i don't know if it does anything.i not going to spent the money to replace all the stuff missing it would cost me a fortune.i want to bypass the rest if i can.i'm not sure what to do to tell you the truth.i tried looking under the dash for the stock computer but i think its on top of the ac system under the dash.i see the control module under the wash resev.the jeep runs really good but when i shift to fifth it slows down a little going up hill.someone told me it was the tires.any ideas would be helpful.i not sure what to do.

5th is a useless gear...Only really good on highways that are flat...And yes you will slow down up shifting from 4th to 5th

The is not a lot of HP with the 4.2L. I know the stock carb is a POS, but that might not be the problem. You have 31s and I am going to guess your gearing is stock. I rarely used my 5th gear with my 33s and the 4.0L.

As far as emissions go, I don't think their is a lot of sensors and what not for our jeep era. All YJs (i think) were made in Canada, so that is not part of you problem. Did you fail emissions or are you just worried about it? If it hasn't had a problem in the past, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Maybe replace the O2 sensor, give it a good tune up and call it good. Depending on your miles, your cat might be getting a bit pluged up but, unless you want to buy a performance exhaust, I wouldn't worry about it until (of if) it goes.

i'm pretty sure my wranglers suppose to have a feedback carb and it does not.it's just a elec. choke carb thats it.the air cleaner assembly and all of it's sensors are gone.the only vaccum lines are for the distributer and the 4wd but not to any sensors. i found something called the nutter mod. thoughts.what does the main computer control anyway.besides the solinoid that was on the carb.

The computer controls the carb air needles and the timing. The nutter bypass was probably done on yours. Check the Ign module behind the driverside fender to see if any wires have been spliced. You do have the Nutter Bypass site, right? Before I nuttered mine the timming would not hold steady. Do you still have the stock dist?

yes i do have the stock dist.i checked my timing with the vaccum line disconnected and tried to hold the rpm at 1600 rpm.the timming seemed close to 9*but it moved around alittle.that's what it says the spec is under the hood.i don't see any wires spliced at the control module.i got the site from the site link you gave me.

Do the wireing bypass. I just ran 2 wires from the module to the dist. You will see a diff in the timing. I set mine @ idle not 1600 after the bypass and it works great. I really just let it idle and turned the dist slowly and found the smoothest spot. Then shot it with the timing light and it ended up being 10*.
