Newbie Purchase Qs, '89 Sahara
I am shopping for a Wrangler YJ in the LA, CA area. I owned Willys Station Sedans, 2WD w/OD, back in the 60s/70s. I am a competent mechanic, most recently on MGBs. Rebuilt 3 engines in the last year, all running well including in my daily driver, a '68. Need 4WD to go into the Santa Rosas south of Indio after quail and deer. Also for snow at my cabin near Idyllwild. I have a 2WD '98 Cherokee SE so am familiar with some aspects of Chrysler engineering.
I looked at this '89 Sahara in Studio City today at Riverside near Coldwater, near where I teach school. Does anyone know a good 4WD mechanic in that area I could take it to for an inspection? It has: - Inline 6 with original carburetor, the stoplight stall thing - Automatic trans with D2L on column - 102 K miles, garaged, weekend use only, little 4WD use and none last 3 years - all standard wheels, tires, etc., unlifted - Hardtop only, no AC - She wants $4K I couldn't get the 4WD to engage, the stick was very stiff, that's why I want someone to check it out. ![]() Thanks, Art
