new transmission going in... advice for transmission n00b?

going to richmond to buy a shiny new ax15 tonight... my old one was locked in 3rd, i couldn't get it to shift out of third... so my first question is, is it going to be retardadly hard to remove the old tranny since it's stuck in gear? thanks in advance!

Out of all the gears for it to be stuck in, you lucked out. 3rd is going to be about the easiest to get the tranny out with.

Aside from the normal PITA of removing a 4x4s tranny, nothing too hard. When i swapped trannys i had a friend come over and we pulled and reinstalled the transmission and t case as one unit. Was very heavy, and hard to move around. We used 2 jacks to help us install it. It actually went quick (maybe 10 minutes to get it mounted), but was a pita. You are supposed to seperate the tcase from the tranny on the vehicle, then install the tranny, then install the tcase. Do whichever you choose.

Have fun. Replace the clutch while your in there.

the clutch is brand new, my cousin threw a centerforce at it two years ago, and the jeeps in storage when i'm in mass... i do know the slave is leaky though, and i'm praying that the tranny i'm getting is coming with one.

well when it comes time to to drop the old tranny and put the new one in. i used an engine hoist to help. take off the cover plate and then put the chain on the tranny and remove it. it also helps with lining up the splines.
