New Stinger

So after traveling down the freeway yesterday, some guy decided to lay on the brakes and he didn't have any brake lamps. How nice of that (insert word here). So I decided to get a stinger. Tell me what you think.

Yep, that's a stinger. Looks good. I have a feeling this will be moved to general.

I dont see what your asking here. I personally dont like them if your not crawling and for a DD I dont like. I also dont like home fabbed ones. Some of the kits look good but to me their just not strong enough (some are but their upper end companies) and to mount one and make it strong enough is a little tough without going with an aftermarket bumper. I would personally just go that route with an aftermarket bumper, maybe 1/8 at most 1/4 plate, it'll hold up just as good except in a roll over or hitting rocks head on.

Not to knock the look, or the function of what a properly designed stinger is designed for... but do you guys really think an unreinforced piece of tube welded at one point on the bumper is going to help if you rear-end another car?

Lotta leverage on that welded joint...

I don't care about the look or the strength. If you rearend someone with what ever is attached to your jeep. Your at fault. The thing isn't going to stop people from driving like morons.

Mine isn't finished I'm planning on putting a winch an once I put that in I'm going to put reinforcements from the stinger to the back of my front bumper.... I don't really care about the use if I rear end some one but I actually use mine lol I almost rolled my yj head over heals while going down a steep decline and tapped the front brakes( don't have parking brakes) its all I could do to not run into a tree lol

Wow, I was just showing a picture guys. Way to go. I don't think this is going to stop anything. I plowed through a vehicle that didn't have brake lights....so the fault was his. I got it for looks, and I plan wheeling again. So way to go guys.

It needs to be reinforced. Needs to be. Otherwise it'll be more of a liability to your radiator and do more damage than good. Stingers have their place and if you want to build a street tank, it's your jeep. Just make sure it works!
