Do just as Joe said. I usually like to cover the holes, so as not to get oil all over. A towel will suffice. Turn it over for a good minute allowing the oil to get where it has to go. Let it rest while you put the plugs in. Actually allowing the starter to cool. Check the oil and make note of what it looks like and the level of it. Keep the battery fully charged and the connections clean and secure. Check for fuel in the filter/carb. Look for any leaks fuel/oil/water. Attach the wires and go for it. Good luck
Ctskip For the decals use a hairdryer and a plastic scraper. Then use Goof Off to remove any residual |

That's what I thought too. I guess it's not true? I wonder how full hard doors would fit though.

I was doin some lookin' and I realized that the inner winshield frame angles on TJ/YJ's are the same...it's the outer part of the frame on the TJ that's swept back more.

Definately crank w/out the plugs in. I would change the oil BEFORE actually trying to start it. Fire extinguisher nearby is handy...crazy things catch on fire when they sit and rot for a while!

can we see some pics on how the TJ hardtop mounted to your YJ? when will you have some full hard doors to put on there. just wondering so we can clear this up. seems to have been a general agreement on the forum that it couldn't work.

Here's a pic. TJ hardtop, TJ upper hard sliders on a stock YJ- ![]() A TJ windshield tapers forward at the bottom which makes it appear to be a diff angle. My buddie and I swapped YJ/TJ doors once and the only thing that didnt line up was the striker.

So when I tried to get the oil out, none of it did. I took the plugs out and turned the engine over alot. Is it possible that the oil seeped thru the gaps in the rings? Should I be worried? Should I just put the plugs in and give it a shot?

Ran outta time today. Wife had Dr's appt and I had to watch the baby. Looks like tomorrow. It wouldnt turn over by itself at first. I had to put a wrench on the crank, but then it turned just fine. I hope I didnt break a ring. We'll see.

I don't know how inclined you are with wrenches, but this might be a good time for a 4.0 or a 4.3...? I am half kidding, it should be fine if it is cranking over smoothly

Condensation builds up and you get a superficial (usually) rust ring just above the compression ring. After it spins with the wrench, shoot some more light oil in there and spin it again with the plugs out. Once the starter can spin it w/out "dragging", change the oil and fire it up. Again, I would NOT try to start it with that nasty old oil and filter. Change the oil and filter, start it, let it run till hot, and change it AGAIN.
