Well I just finished over hauling my wife's yj. 2.5L 5spd.
I
-replaced the pistons, rings, Rv cam and gaped the head gasket a thiner than stock. compression is up a bit now.
-New ingition system.
-New lifters, valves and p-rods, and rockers.
-new valve cover .
and toped everyting off with redine lube in the tranny, t-case and diffs.
So the good part!!! took a 350 mile road trip this weekend.
Got the beast up to 28 mpg and dynoed to over 192 hp to the ground at 4500RPM.
Sounds like fuzzy math.
Something else I don't understand is the reference some make to how much MPG per tank.
I'll bet if they did (miles driven/gallons used)=MPG those numbers would be more realistic.
Those RV cams do shift the powerband downwards for more low end grunt, so a properly geared 4 banger will see better efficiency as long as the RPMs are kept lower.
I don't think it could put 192 to the flywheel, much less the ground. I gotta see a video or something, because if thats true then I need a parts list with numbers and places to get'em.
Eh he could get that mileage. Only on the dyno though where there is not wind resistance to factor in and soon as he gets that thing on the road hes gonna be shocked. Ive come to accept I literally have the aerodynamics of a pile of bricks.
192BHP is hard to believe, and 4500 isn't the red line, so that wouldn't even be the max horsepower.
28 MPG...is more believable. It would depend on the size of the tires and how the Jeep was driven. I'm getting 22 or so with mine right now with 31x10.5" driving 70-75MPH. (Calculated by tripmeter from last refil divided by amount of gas required to top of the tank...)
At 50 mph you might get 28 mpg with a well-tuned engine. Definitely not 192 hp to the wheels though. Even with a supercharger you'd have a hard time getting there.
if he can get that out of a 4 banger, i am gonna trailer my heep up there and get the same guy to work on it!
i think the bored 4.3 chevy should be able to put out at least 350hp.....
funny, when i reset the mpg computer on my range rover, if i am coasting down the highway, downhill, i can get over 35mpg out of it too....just kinda spoils it when i have to touch the gas pedal:rofl:
At anything over 23 inches of vacuum.
...you see my fuel injection computer effectively shuts off the fuel when it sees that kinda vacuum signal.
I only ever see 23+ inches vac...coming down from 2000+ rpm or coasting down a 12% grade in 5th etc etc...
