new front left, side marker fender flare turn signal not working

I went to replace the 194 bulb and saw the white wire hanging off near where the wires are tied to the fender. Fooling with that caused the other wire to break off. So i spliced the wires. Bulb socket white to Jeep light green. And bulb socket black to Jeep yellow and black striped. Put a new bulb in. Doesn't work. Tried the second bulb in the package. Doesn't work. I cleaned the contacts in the bulb socket best i could and tried again. Nothing. Did a continuity test from socket to the splice point. And that's good for both wires. Could it still be a bad socket? Or what could it be? Thanks!
