Hey guys
My gf and I Just recently got a 92 YJ for 4K Originally we wanted a TJ but with our limited funds we found this YJ in a Damn good condition . It has no leaks and interior isn't bad at all and man this thing call haul ASSSSSSS !!!!!
Specs:
1992 Jeep Wrangler
4.0L I6 MPI AMC 242 "Power Tech HO" (High Output)
120K miles
AX-15 5speed
Front dana 30 - 4.10 gear ratio
Rear dana 35 - 4.10 gear ratio
I think it might have a lift on it but Im not sure nether was the previous owner....but we also ordered the RC 4' lift from Ryan at RC hopefully will be coming this week .
So what are some good Mods I can do to this thing ???
BTW there is a slight knocking when idling in Neutral ... what steps should I do to find the source of this problem ?? Oil and O2 sensor has just been recently changed .
Great find!! you already have the ideal set up 4.10's and 4.0l. I added a Dynomax Ultraflo, and took off my rattling rofl cat, and it really made a big difference, without too much uneeded noise.
Well finally finished the RC 4" lift install this weekend had alot of trouble with the pitman arm we broke one pitman arm puller then tried it with a nicer puller didn't work so just we decided to just cut it off Then we got some cragar soft 8's and bfgoodrich 285/70/r17 for it.
Also im going to have to get some rear boom shackles to lift the rear up a bit because its rubbing .
Man this jeep thing is expensive :maddance: .
Then we took it out on a test run with a couple of friends . Man this rides better than stock flexes really nice and the ride isn't so bumpy . So far no vibs from driveline at all the angle isn't that bad but will invest in a SYE kit anyways.
btw im thinking about painting the softtop any Idea's on how can this be done ?

Anyone know any good write ups for DIY rock sliders for YJ ?
The sound is probably lifter tap. Its very common in inline sixes, just because the camshaft is so long. Search 'lifter tap' and you should find some fixes for it. I asked my dad about this, and he said its no real problem when at idle. If it does that at rpm's, then there's a problem. Mine does it too.

shinobi: Its a RE 4.5 Extreme Duty W/AA SYE and Tom Woods shaft 33x12.5r15 Toyo Open Counry MT Been havin a great time with it:cheers2: Dont know anything about changing color on a soft top, my hard top is gonna go back on before the snow flies:chilly:
No, I saw the sticker in your window, I have run with Great Basin Offroaders, a very loose affiliation, havnt heard much out of those guys lately, A few of them are on the local search and rescue, takes up a lot of time im sure. Best I have been doing is one or two buddys to go out daytrippin:cheers2:
Search and Rescue (SAR) is a good excuse to use your Jeep, and you never know when someone might need some help. I do SAR and it is an excellent excuse to go outside.
Shinobi: yes the drive shafted needs to be changed too, instead of the shaft being splined and slipping into t-case the SYE output shaft is changed to a bolt on and the d-shaft has a slip joint in it. If your going to go that route, think about a terra low 4:1 ????. Wish I had. Thinking about selling my t-case w/SYE so i can buy an Atlas II:cheers2: That would be the shizznitt Happy Wheelin'
That's a nice jeep and a good price. Congrats on that deal. You didn't waste any time getting things done either. That front bumper looks original. You know, not off the shelf. Nice job!
Btw, I remember seeing something on this forum about dying the soft top. I think it was on jf but not sure. My guess is you would prob. have to strip off that moisture retardent that's on there. Who knows what that'll take. Prob. some kind of solvent. I noticed prices have come down on the soft tops recently. I recall seeing one for about $250. I don't know if it was a Best top or not but it may be cheaper in the long run to just buy a new one in the color you want. Plus you get a warranty of some sort. And then, you don't what kind of results you'll get from a dye job either. You know ,you might have to repeat, rinse, repeat. That's your call. What color were you considering?
So I decided to drive to Sonora Ca and picked up some fully built YJ axles :thumbsup:They are D30 and D35 ( I know I know) ..... They both have ARB lockers, 30 spline Alloy axle Shafts, 4.88 gear ratio and SOA perches already welded on !! Also the front has Rubicon High steer !!! As for the price, he was asking 1300 for both but then later took 1000 for them. I think it was worth it just for the front axle alone !! He also threw in the ARB Air compressor & extended brake lines !!
Duplicolor Vinyl paint for the top a few write ups under search that look pretty promising,(I will be trying it soon. Also dont know what shape your soft windows are in but if you can salvage your top the best top replacement windows with tint look great with the factory soft top and are alot cheaper than replacing the whole thing. Great looking jeep by the way good luck
good find on the axles, if you want to stay with stock axles..I would sell the rear axle and find an 8.8 though, then you would have a descent setup...I hope you arent planning on using your current spring in SOA though, that thing will be a skyscraper!! What are your plans for the springs?
Thanks man .. well yeah I priced out some 8.8 around town here and I can't seem to find one under 800 so Im going to run the super D35 for a while until I brake them or get a 9" or something .. Plus I haven't herd of anyone breaking a super 35 yet so maybe I could be the first :2thumbsup:
Well Im going to the Rubicon this Oct so I got to get this thing ready so I don't have any money for new springs . I do plan to take out the shackle lifts and my springs seem to be sagging already anyways . Hopefully its not to tall ..

Okie so today we installed the front axle ,we didn't work on it long since I had to go to court in the morning and then I had to do some HW ...
Here she was 4" RC lift with 1" lift shackles ...
Lol we made a mess with the brake fluids ... those things are a PITA I still can't remove them so we had to remove it from the brake caliper .
I really didn't like how tall it was going to be with the lift shackles so I put the stock one back on ..
Looks much better
