New 350 Now What Tranny???

My brother in law just gave me a 350 out of his stock car. Now I am looking for a tranny and transfer case. I have a TH350 but it's 2wd. I would like to have a manual. I am on somewhat of a budget (XMAS Time). What would be my best choice??

Your transfer case may be one of 2, 207-231. But in 87 the spline count was the lower one so neither one is good. Your best bet would be to find a 87 up to 92ish S-10 truck blazer and take that trans and transfer case. The case is located on the right(driver) side too. But remember adding that much more power will require you to beef up the rest of the drive train.

He said inexpencive, nv4500 is around $2K if you can find one, nv3500's are easier to find, chevy mid 90's 4.3 powered S-10's and Blazers and halfton trucks. I bought a 96 blazer for the drivetrain, was able to test it all before i pulled it and then parted what was left and ended up with a good drivetrain for a couple hundred bucks.

700R4. There are lots of them around, they have overdrive, the older ones have no computer and it comes in a heavy duty version with a thicker case.

Look for one with a big "K" stamped into the bell housing for the truck version.

the manual to look for in S-10s is the NV3500, it will come with a 231C transfercase, this comes behind the 4.3 engine, the 4 cylinder trucks use something else that you don't want. You can use the 231C transfercase by switching the output shafts with one from a jeep (231J)

and those are 6cyl models rt. ive got an option to do an ax15 swap with a matching tcase and it came out of a 99 tj and i dont remember what spline count the 4vs6 difference were but i think the 21 was for 4's and the 23 for 6's. either way i guess my slip yoke will replace either or so it wont matter
