"New" 302 won't fire

I drove my YJ with a 70 ford 302, 5 hours home and it overheated on me after about 2 hours on the interstate. The next day I pulled the thermostat and it was rusted and I saw alot of rust in the block so I pulled the bottom radiator hose and stuck a waterhose inside where the waterneck connects to the block to flush it out. I put it back together and it hasn't fired since. I also started tearing out the dash the same night but this shouldn't effect whether or not the engine fires (I believe). I have checked the following things:

distributor is obviously not wet by now (4 days ago)
replaced all fuses
made sure the switch hadn't came unplugged
I get 12 volts on the red/green (hot) wire from the ignition from both ends.
There is spark at the New coil
Rotor button turns when trying to start
battery is good
set points
pulled fuel line and the carb gets gas
poured gas into carb while wife tries to start
new wires and distributor cap
read all the "no fire" threads on JF for ideas

Could I have screwed up the timing when I messed with the points?

Please help me out before the wife kills me for spending so much money on a non-running jeep.

i would check for spark at the plugs ..... you seem to know it is getting fuel so the spark would be the only other thing i can think of .... unless you timing is off now for some weird reason

You don't know how many times the thought has crossed my mind. I would prefer a permanent fix though.

Often if it can start firing and running for a bit it'll dry up anything that was inhibiting it before.

Unless there is foreign stuff in there from inside the hose you used, where you may possibly damage the internals.

Toss up.

Case Closed. The points were set incorrectly and I had to replace the distributor ground wire that goes to the negative end of the coil. Thanks for the suggestions.
