Ok I am trying to re-seal my transfer case just in front of the output shaft, I have already replaced the bushing and seal in the other part, but still have a leak, so now I removed the end part with the seal, and the bolts, and the snap ring on the output shaft, however I can get that cover to only come out about 1/2-3/4" I do not want to force it, what am I missing? I removed the speedometer cable, but do I have to remove the well that the speedo goes into???? Any answers appreciated.
Mike
To remove the speedo gear, unbolt that retaining fork on top of the plug and, by moving the plug left to right, pull the speedo gear out. There will be a rubber seal that keeps this seals, perhaps that seal is bad.
One thing I learned that is critical in making the case not leak is make sure every bolt is torqued down to specifications. to tight or too loose, you'll be in trouble.

Yes, but my question is, do I need to remove the speedo gear to remove this part of the case?? It is not leaking from the speedo, it is leaking from the other part of the case, so I need to pull it so I can re-seal the case.
Thanks, Mike
The speedo gear is clamped to the housing and meshes with a gear on the output shaft which is staying with the case so I'd guess yes, I'd suspect it would hang up a bit without removing the speedo gear - never tried it though. I'm trying to picture what seal you're trying to replace now though. Unless its leaking from around the output housing itself and you need to reseal that. Maybe bent output shaft?

ok, I'll take that out then, no my shaft is not bent, but that part of the case is dripping, and it bugs me so I want to fix it. I guess it is called the output housing, I never knew the name, Thank you.
