Need some help...maybe some pics/steering

I was looking at my steering column today because I am getting ready to put it back in. The arm with the square end that gets bolted in to the knuckle of the steering bar in the engine compartment, slides in and out of the steering column rather easily. That is my first concern, the part with the square end.

Then there is the tube with the bearing at the end that this bar is supposed to come out of. The bearing popped out and I am having a pip of time getting it back in short of using anything but a hammer. This is the lower pipe that slides up in to the section of the steering column that the wheel is attached to, then a certain portion of it comes through the firewall.

That is where problem 2 and 3 come in to play. I have NO IDEA how far I am supposed to push this pipe through the firewall, and then bolt it in using the bracket that is attached to the firewall? I can only assume that it is to those top two notches that are bubbling out of this pipe. Even though I can get it through to an extent, I do not know how far that square piece that bolts into the knuckle is supposed to come through? I know the bearing assemblies are cheap, I was pricing them earlier. However the one that I have, still looks perfectly intact. Any ideas or photos would be much appreciated.

On a side note, I am firguring that since I have such easy access to it, I might as well change out my fuel pump while i'm at it.
