need more mpg on 1989 YJ
i have a really hard time getting good gas mileage on my 1989 4.2l 6cyl. Wrangler YJ. I get about 220 miles to a fill up, what can i do with air intake etc.
Slow steady project.
I'm lucky to get 200 mi/tank on my '89 4.2 yj
89' YJ - 4.2 - NV4500 - NP231w/sye - 1" Body Lift - 2 1/2" Rancho Suspension Lift - 31" Firestone MTR - AR Outlaw II - Tomken Bumpers F & R - Warn 8000 front - Warn 6000 rec. mount rear - FlowFit Seats - Tom Woods Rear & Custom 2" front driveshafts
Ummm, bigJ, 220 is pretty good (IMO). Other than that, I would say a conversion to fuel injection would prolly improve MPG. However, that's not a cheap upgrade. Have you tried testing differant grades of gas. How about octane boosters? Try differant things. Oh yea, one more thing. Drive slower and don't haul *** off of the line (from a stop light or something similar). Not saying you do, but so many love to stomp on it and get up to 30mph really quick. Go fig. I know I've managed to get 50 extra miles out of a tank just in changing driving style.
