need more mpg on 1989 YJ

i have a really hard time getting good gas mileage on my 1989 4.2l 6cyl. Wrangler YJ. I get about 220 miles to a fill up, what can i do with air intake etc.

oh really, well is there anything i can do to upgrade like fans to electric or any special air filter things

You could try a K&N air filter or a "chip".
Might help a bit.

Wish I could get 200 miles out of a tank lol

Ummm, bigJ, 220 is pretty good (IMO). Other than that, I would say a conversion to fuel injection would prolly improve MPG. However, that's not a cheap upgrade. Have you tried testing differant grades of gas. How about octane boosters? Try differant things. Oh yea, one more thing. Drive slower and don't haul *** off of the line (from a stop light or something similar). Not saying you do, but so many love to stomp on it and get up to 30mph really quick. Go fig. I know I've managed to get 50 extra miles out of a tank just in changing driving style.

Keep your carburetor clean. add a high flow exhaust.

Keep your top on and your doors and windows shut. You'd be surprised what a difference it makes in mileage. I know, I can't do it either.
