Need to make final decision (is the "farm jack" over the Hi-Lift the best choice)
okay guys i found a 48" 3 1/2 ton Farm Jack online for 38.99 shipped to me door.
Its nearly half the price of a "Hi-Lift" brand. I understand... "you get what you pay for" BUT i wouldnt be very hard on it and for the money i think it might be worth it Please, if you have any experience or someone you personally know has had experience with the generic "Farm Jacks"let me know. I'm about to pull the trigger!! thanks in advance

I say get the HI-Lift. You really want a cheap jack holding up your Jeep while you are trying to change a tire or something? BTW I use a 48" HI-Lift and it works great.

I have the one you are talking about, I think ,, the HF "farm jack" . it works fine for me.. I use it on the tractor also. Any jack can be dangerous.

I have seen cracked farm jack parts. I have never seen a hilift jack cracked.

For $29 bucks, I too bought the HF.
I think its alot like a winch, if you plan on using it ALOT buy a good one. If its an one or a few uses only then get the cheaper. I have a winch but wanted one as a last resort tool.

i have no problems with the farm jack, i got mine at Tractor Supply for half the price of the High Lift. used it a bunch and got it in some pretty nasty situations with no problems besides the normal "watch out for the flying handle to your face"

I got a HF jack. I have abused it in every way you can (in use) I have lifted loads that were way over the rated amount. I added a extension to the handle to help put more leverage on it due to load being high. I have used it as a press and as a winch. But its one draw back is its so HEAVY. That and crud gets in the workings of it and it sometimes sticks. But a whack with the hammer and a little WD40 and all is working again. I bought mine for 19.99 about 6 years ago.

I honestly think it all depends on how you take care of it. If its outside of your vehicle I dont feel it will last as long as if it was inside... I have seen many rusted jacks sitting on peoples jeeps that I would be scared to use on my jeep.
I say go with the cheap one if you need something but I would rather spend the extra money on the hi-lift...
