Need a full carrier for my front HP30

I have Auburn ECTED lockers in my front HP30 and my rear Ford 8.8. Both are out of the D-Rex program and both have failed. Auburn wants an arm and a leg for replacements, more than even Quadratec!

I'm not putting the back in. I was thinking just going with lunchboxes front and rear but I guess I can't, I need full carriers.

What are my options here? I was thinking of a Detroit in the rear and I guess I could put one up front also. But now we're really starting to talk some serious coin. I suspect we'll sell the YJ after 2 more seasons.

I guess I could run Open up front but I really don't like that idea.

How do I get a lunchbox into the front with the ECTED already in place? The ECTED is already a full carrier.

Buy a new/used carrier. Depending on your grears you could get a carrier from the junkyard out of a 6cyl (3.07 gears) or a 4cyl (4.11 gears). Carrier break for gears ratios are easy to find using the search and are probably listed in the FAQ.

Replace the carrier. You were gonna do that anyway.

Unless my research is no good, 4.88 gears will work in a stock Dana 30 that came with 4.11 gears. This would be an axle out of a 4cyl.

So, find you a Dana 30 out of a 4cyl wrangler. I got a compelte axle for $150. You may be able to find a used carrier for less.

No. But...

You will need to find someone who can set your gears back up.

So, you will leave your pinion where it is. You'll take the ring off your current carrier and put it on the new carrier. And the Aussie in the place of your spider gears.

But, if you just bolt it all up it will fail. Find someone who can set it all back up for you.

I forgot to mention, not sure if that new carrier from ECGS comes with bearings. So you may need to buy a master install kit too.

Funny, I used to wrench on my cars and haven't in a long time. Was thinking of doing this one. But no, I'll give it to my guy to do, he knows Jeeps.

Thanks!

It does not, so bearings, shims and a gasket will be needed.
