Need advice please (TIRE UPGRADE)
Hey guys, i need a little advice. I have a 93 yj with the 4.0 and 6.5 inches of lift. Right now I am running 33X12.50's and I want to go to 35X12.50's. Do i need to upgrade anything on the axles or anything like regear? I don't beat my jeep up and the only time it sees 4X4 is in the winter time. So since I don't run my jeep hard or mud it, could I stay with my factory gearing when I upgrade to 35's? I' m hoping I can get 35's without any upgrades because the tires are gonna break the bank by themselves.
So what ya'll think? Thanks

imguessing you still have the ****ty d35 undeer the rear? answer is YES! unless you want to blow your rear apart about 15 feet down the road i would DEF. upgrade the axles im suporsed that they didnt blow with the the 33's. hell i blew mine with 235's. i would go up to atleast a d44 or even better a 8.8 out of an explorer as for gears im not your man for that but im sure someone else will give you that info. but without regearing i would say bye bye to all of 5th gear and some of 4th. and hello to even worse MPG. Also i would really run 35's on a DD your gonna get alot of wandering and loose all arund road manners. just my 2 cents....to each his own...

if it only sees the street then the factory gears and axles will be fine. it will suck to drive but it will work. why would you want 35s if you have no intention to take it off road? it will only drive worse and get worse gas mileage and you wont even be taking advantage of the whole reason to "upgrade." besides jeep drivers "in the know" will make fun of it - a spik-n-span polished jeep with 35s and factory driveline.

35s on stock gears. you wont be happy with that set up for long. you're gonna lose a decent amount of power with those meats. Also as mentioned, the Dana 35 wont live long with 35s, especially not if you have it locked. I recomend an 8.87 rear end and re-gear to 4.10s

New Axles? Absolutely! An open D35 pulling that much weight is going to kill it. As said before, I would go to a junkyard and get an 8.8 out of an explorer; it should be somewhat cheap. For gearing, check out this:
http://www.4lo.com/calc/geartable.htm Google does wonders BTW, how come you did all this work to your jeep, but don't take it off road? Personally, I don't understand why one would big lifts, tires, etc. and not take it off road. Not trying to bust your chops, just wondering!

my suggestion since u dont want to spend too much is to buy a 8.8 ford axle with 4:10 gears with the limited slip in it and find a front dana 30 out of a 4 banger yj that has 4:10 gears in it. ull have a strong rear axle, a limited slip in it, disc brakes, and itl beat the hell out of having 3:07s now. 4:56s would be better than 4:10s but 4:10s are better than 3:07s and a dana35, i would def not waste money regearing the dana35.

Your engine/clutch will like you better if you regear. You will see 5th gear again try here for a good tire size/gear ratio chart http://www.4wheelonline.com/superlift_tiresize.htm
This one is cool http://www.4lo.com/4LoCalc.htm

don't give up quite yet, brcfan0142...
I bought a 93 YJ a few years ago that had stock driveline, 4.0L, 3.07 gears, and 35x15.50 Swamper SXs on it. The previous owner used it for his daily driver, and I used it some just to tool around in. It went about 40k miles with those tires and never had a problem. Granted, it wasn't wheeled much, but it rode ok, drove ok, and looked good. As mentioned earlier, forget 5th gear. It was liveable as a street ride, should work good in the snow, but don't expect to crawl or mud far. |

All that matters is when you get new tires, you get Thornbirds. Those things are so bada$$. I'm saving up so I can get a set of 31s!

Ive had 35's on my d35 for more then 7k miles and i wheel pretty moderatly. Once every few days climbin chit. Im hard on it. Ive got the 4banger and 4.10s' and i do ok on the street and liveable on the highway. I can hit 60 on flat ground. You guys think the d35 is just total garbage dont you? Its not as bad as you think. Everyone jumps all over it as the worst axle ever made. As long as you not wheelin it, you will be perfectly fine. With the i6 you should be the same as me. If you want to be able to peel out(8.8 req for this ) then youll want to regear. ITS NOT THAT BAD GUYS! ![]()

factory defects/seconds I guess. What is "I wheel pretty moderately... I'm hard on it." mean? Toss in a locker and see what happens. Leave it open you should be ok, but I have seen one break in the mall parking lot (not kidding) so wheel moderately at yer own risk...
