Hey guys, I was under my jeep yesterday and I was looking at the O2 sensor wiring and noticed something that strange.
The O2 sensor wiring goes into a connector mounted along the oil pan rail, from that connector the four wires contained in that loom travel up and over the engine across the intake manifold. Between these two areas (roughly around the motor mount) there is a set of two wires that branch out and travel over the mount towards the firewall. These wires are wrapped in loom and use friction tape, they look like a factory part of the harness.
Here's the weird part, these two wires are melted and fused to my exhaust manifold. I pulled them off of the manifold and I see that this whole section of wire is melted and fused together, further; the melted off ends of these wires look like they have some ghetto installed spade electrical connectors.
I've looked in my chiltons manual but I cant find a damn thing about this section of wiring. THe manual says that 2.5 engines have 3 wires in the O2 sensor harness, I definitely have 4. The 4.0 section shows 4 wires. Neither of these diagrams show any wiring branching out from the O2 sensor harness.
I'm confused as to what these wires go to. They are in factory loom but have home brewed spade connectors on them.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
First things first, get rid of the Chiltons manual. Its garbage. Go here on YouTube and use his link to download the 95 manual. Its the same as yours for all intensive purposes and since its pdf you can search for the stuff in it. Make sure to thank him and look at some of his vids. Great info!
Wire colors would make it much easier. There is a harness that goes to the rear that some jeeps have for the hard top wipers and defrost. Difficult to say without a pic and the colors.
Here is an excerpt from the factory (1995) service manual. Look at the O2 sensor harness and you can see the 4 wires, but I think this diagram is unclear when the wires split off. If I am reading it correctly, wires shouldnt branch off the O2 sensor harness. It doesnt make much sense to me anyway that wires would, what system in the jeep can benefit from tapping into the O2 harness??
