Hasn't been alot to write about. I did swap a sport bar for my family bar to Mean Max for one of his customers. The sport bar was off a CJ, as it doesn't have provisions for the windshield spreader bars. Doesn't look too bad, at least at night.

I swear that there is more CJ metal on this Jeep then YJ metal!!

Thanks to a friend at work, I got a set of Bestop sport bar cover and padding for free! It was never even installed before!

I also got a new trail cover, since my old one only fit the family bar.

Very nice. Your jeep is definitely vintage.

I often wondered what would have happened if I just bought a late model CJ7, and put a 4.0/AX15 drive train in that. Probably would have looked the same!

Got some pics outside of the carport this morning, with the roll bar padding.

Pics of the roll bar.

Thanks! There are a few people I've met that would like to do the swap and use CJ tube fenders. I saw one that was done like that, and it looked pretty sweet. I think I've done all of the retro stuff I going to do with it. Now, I need to work on the body, and the drive train rebuilt, and it should be good to go.

Haha ditto, prepped and got the first coat on today. I am running a 1965 CJ-5 hood and grille with the YJ fenders.

I'm glad people will see the hood from the side and not the top. Hope my second coat does wonders

I really like the way both of yours looks. I've built my YJ too much to change rigs, but I like the CJ look better.

How is that '65 hood working? I know it's a few inches shorter then the later CJ's.

I finished painting and clearcoating. I'll put up some pics once I start the swap. From what I have read, other guys have used CJ-5 hoods on YJ's. But not sure what years they used.

I'm really jonesing to start the swap, but I have a trail ride this coming Saturday. Have to make sure I'm ready for the ride. We'll see how ambitious I get this week.

I have the 2.5L, so there is a lot of room to move the grille back. My fenders are rusty, so if need be they could be modified to make things work.

That '65 hood is going to be about 6" shorter than your YJ hood. They went to the longer nose in ' 72. You have the 4cyl so you might be able to pull it off without clearance problems. I went with a '52 grill and a '84 hood. The grill took a lot of work to mount but it was all worth it in the end.

Thanks for the info skyj, I will get out the tape measure before I go any farther with using this hood. 6" sounds like a lot... My paint job is purdy tho...

Good looking conversion skyj, the flat fenders work well with a CJ grille I think.

jeepsOlot hope it's cool chatting in your thread, these Jeeps are inspiring.

edit: found this on the internet
CJ-5/7 hood. 1972-85: 99cm / 38.97 inch
CJ-5 hood ---- 71: 88cm / 34.64 inch

So about 4" shorter according to this Norwegian Jeep dude http://www.jeepclubnorway.no/smf/index.php?topic=77.0

So maybe my '65 hood is the same length as the other pre-72 ones.

Got my parts painted up, and picked up the hardware I need. Need to fab some brackets, I have a good idea of what measurements will be.

Hey, Idso, just thought of something. You might have to trim the grille more on the drivers side then I did from to clear the PS lines coming out of the PS pump
