My wife just said I can do a v8 swap!!!

so here are the questions.

Is a 5.3 vortec out of an 05 suburban with all accessories, harness, computer, transmission, and drivers drop transfer case for 1500.00 a good price?

What are the little things I need to make sure I get with the engine?

Is the setup going to be too long?

What should add to my list?

here is the list...

radiator
motor mounts
transmission mount
gas pedal and module
taurus fan (already have)
wiring harness (what kind?)
Driveshafts
shift linkage
fuel pump

this is off the top of my head. I know there are several issue that I need to address. I would like to be calculated and have everything thought out before I start. I know I am already in over my head but am really excited about having a great rig.

Hi there. It's nice when a hobby like this runs with everyone's approval ;-)

Check out my videos in the signature. I installed a 1970 LT1 with a 92 Vette TPI and my own wiring and homemade computer into my YJ. What a hoot!

Your list is a good start. The first big decision is the type of motor mounts to use.

That does sound like a good price, but you didn't mention the miles. I assume 4l60E trans? 242 Transfer case? I'd switch to 241(manual shift) for the TC. You'll also need an SYE. The length should be fine.
You'll also need a fuel pressure regulator. Get a fuel filter for a 2000 Vette. That has a built in regulator.
If you have a wire harness to modify, I hear great things about Jimsperformance.com. If you need to have one made(like I did) howell is a good bet. I ordered mine on Tues. and had it that Friday. Very nice harness. Well labeled. Easy to install.
You'll also need new gauges. Get the gas pedal from a trailblazer or envoy. The truck one is too big.
I have a build thread. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/6-0-swap-start-719593/ I may have mentioned more there.

Thanks. I'm only running 33s so the 4.11s seem fine. I bet the 700R4 is too tall with 3.73s though... Here is a gear train calculator for you:

http://www.christiansens.ca/gears.html

Plug your numbers in and see if what you get is what you like!

Yes, with that 4 inch lift and the longer 700r4 you'll need a SYE... I'm only at 2.5 inches of lift and I have no vibes... Maybe when the 700R4 goes in I'll have vibes. I don't have a TC drop though and like it this way. I can drive over stuff my buddies hang up on.

Im gonna agree with the guys above. Im in the process of throwing in a 88 350ci and the little things are the biggest PITA. I dont know how mechanically skilled you are but I started with little to none and with the help of these guys, Im getting it done. Dont be afraid to ask questions.. Im prob the biggest tard on the forum but the experience ive gained from doing this swap is priceless.

As far as extra parts that I think you will need
-chiltons manual or sign up at autozone.com for info on the burban
-flex radiator hoses (i got a good deal from jegs on my rad btw)
-relays for taurus fan
-if your going with a universal radiator, your also gonna need a tranny cooler & prob 3/8 steel tranny lines (thats what i used)
-i had a clearance issue with the headers. Had long tubes at first and had to go with a set of shorty headers
-fluids ( i got mine while they were on sale)
-If you have a rusy jeep, get a LARGE can of PB blaster. I had more stuff break than you can imagine.
-Engine paint ( I cleaned up the inside of my engine bay)

My .02 of advise
-get as much as you can as early as you can and keep your receipts. Its annoying as hell running back and forth to the parts store, lol
-as far as the tranny mount, you can prob use the one from the burban and drill it to your stock skid plate
-sell off as much as you can from your jeep that you wont be using. My lil 2.5, tranny, and tcase basically paid for my donor K5. If not, your gonna spend LOTS OF MONEY
-Invest in a fridge to put in your garage to keep cold beer if you dont have one already.
-take as much as you can from the donor... I had to buy 2 different trucks to put this jeep together and still had to go to the junkyard a time or two. You prob wonder why, i live in a condo where working on a car is "illegal and can get me evicted" "shhhh..."

Thats all i can think of man.. hope it helped. Im goin carbed to keep it as simple as possible and Im still gettin help, lol.

PS
Jeepster, 1Ton, and leftlanetruckin... I hope I made you proud, haha

update

First I want to thank everyone who replied to MY THREAD
You guys are great. I am a long time lurker and appreciate what I have learned.

the update...

I put a deposit on the drivetrain today. I pick it up on Friday. Here is what I know so far.

The drivetrain has 55k.
The trans is the 4l60e.
the transfer case is whatever comes with it. 242?

They are giving me the complete harness, computer, sensors, driveshafts, air intake box, transfer case switch, fuse block, transmission mount, bucket of bolts, and whatever else I want. If I need it I will use it. If I don't, I'll take it back.

The throttle is a cable throttle. (i looked today, easier)
I already have the fan setup in and am going to get a 22x19 universal radiator.

I am ordering parts tomorrow.
Is there anything that I am overlooking? (their must be)
How should I set up the shifter for the transmission?
Do I need an aftermarket or is their a junkyard donor that is compatible?

I know I could run high on cost but I am trying to run a budget build but not cut major corners. (oxymoron?)

I contacted a mechanic friend that is going to get me all of the diagram stuff for the jeep and the burban. I told him he would need to tudor me on it and he assured that he could help me learn the wiring.

Now there's a problem. That's a good price for a 55k motor. However, they all had drive by wire 2003 and newer. Makes me wonder what else may or may not be true.

I hope I'm wrong. I'll look into it. I was under the impression that all chevy's with the 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0 switched in 2003

I forgot...

Dont forget to grab the powersteering hose !!! You will have to take it to a hydrolic shop with your high pressure hose from the jeep and have them mate it together. Chevy on one end for the PS pump and Jeep on the other for the steering box.
