Is my TH400 fried???

I have a YJ with a SBC/400. "D" has stopped working. I can burn out with the shifter in 1st, 2nd, and reverse. If I put it in 2nd it shifts from 1-2 just fine. I put it in drive it just kinda slips and creeps along no matter the RPMs. I did fill it with lake water a few months ago but I flushed it and its been running fine the plug has fuzz but no chunks and the fluid is not burnt. I changed the modulator, fluid and filter. Someone please be a TH400 guru and tell there is a little ball stuck in the dang dole valve body somewhere and that the friggin lake water didn't catch up with me...

Probably fried. Water and automatic transmissions don't mix even for a short period of time. Water delaminates the friction material on the clutches. Looks like time for a rebuild.

Have you dropped the valve body to see if all the spool valves are free?

Especially the 2-3 shift valve in the valve body, and the 2-3 modulator valve .

I know the CJs with the TH400 used an electric kickdown switch, but I don;t remember if they also had a vacuum modulator. If yours has one, check and see if there is fluid in the vac line when you pull it off the modulator. If so, your diaphragm is ruptured and you need a new vac modulator.
