My Rustoleum Paint Job

I finally had some good weather and some time to get some paint on my YJ...
Here are some prep pics.
A before shot
You can see a small spot of rust on the w/s frame, so I took the glass out, fixed that spot and painted that also.

a bunch of sanding and sanding and sanding, under all that crap was a ton of bondo already there..

While I got it torn down I am gonn do the inside with that Palstic Kote stuff.

(NOT RATTLE CAN)
I am very pleased, this is the first time I painted something like this..... I have had a Macoo job on a truck in the past, and I think this has turned out much much better....

I will get some pics up of the finnished product....

I apologize if I am raining on your parade but I have used Rustoleum paint before. It looks good at first but you will be far better off to spend the extra dime and buy a better paint. Rustoleum fades and chips to easy and is just a cheap paint.

With all of the awesome prep that you are doing, spend a few extra for a quality paint.

I knew a guy that had cars painted in Mexico he learned the same lesson and brought the paint to them. Cheap paint does not last.

No worries, you are not raining on my parade,,, This paint job will be around alot longer than me,,, the next owner can worry about it. In the mean time..... I like it...... $34 dollars worth of paint and if it last 2 years it is worth it...to me.

I had unbolted the fenders from the core support, and wedged them apart, to better access with sanding and painting.

It will be a few more days, before I can untape it,,and get new pics, I am gonna do a few more coats. I had planned on spraying it last night but it had rained and it was just to humid yesterday evening.

I don't know if the mix ratio is right or wrong, but it is working, After experimenting on come boxes, I ended up using 4 oz of mineral spirits to 16oz of paint. I also got some disposable paint cups for the gravity gun at HF, they are 20oz. (no clean up on those if ya don't want to, but I am still using the first one)

After I get done with my YJ I have my sons 72 CJ5 inline for paint.

Wait a minute. Are you recoating the next day? Can you do that without the paint crinkling up.?

I though that you had too recoat within a few hours? Also if you wait a few days to take the tape off you may take the paint off with the tape.

So, how did it go?

imho its a shame to do so much prep then use rustoleum. at least get a nicer industrial rust proofing paint than rustoleum.

id be suprised if it lasts a year

why are you guys giving him so much ****? Hes doing what he chose to do. Its a cheap option and should hold up well according to a lot of people on this forum. As far as paiting it a day appart people roll this stuff on a day between and have had no issues.

^^I agree! Its purpose is to keep it from rusting and look half way decent. Doesn't need to be show quality.
Keep us updated with pics..I think I'll be doing this soon also

And the first time you get on the trail and scratch it up its easy as **** to fix. Better than worrying about taking a professional paint job on the trail too.
