My posi-lock isn't so 'posi' - help!
I recently swapped axles, and the d30 I put in had a posi-lock already set up on it so we swapped that over too. It works pretty well at crawl speeds, but if I go over say 10mph, it pops out of engagement - virtually eliminating 4hi (something I'd really like to have on the snowy roads with the detroit in the rear). Has anyone else expereienced this? I'm hoping it's just an adjustment that is off, but thought I would throw it up here before I pull it apart.
TIA - Chris

Do not drive your Jeep on pavement in 4 wheel drive for long periods of time. The binding in the transfer case will damage it. These are part time fourwheel drives. How do you know that it pops out of 4wd? They recommend that the shift fork be replaced at the same time as the posiloc install. Check that to see if it is somehow worn and not fully engaging the shaft.

I was under the impression that you were fine driving in 4hi on the pavement as long as there was rain/snow on the pavement - just never dry pavement. I've done this for years and never had a problem.
There's just no question what is happening with the cable. There's a loud 'clunk' and the 4wd light goes out, and I have to readjust the cable by turning it counter-clockwise to make it engage again. I've heard about the shift fork potentially causing problems. I'm going to take a look at that when I'm in there, but it looked fine when we installed it a month ago. |

If your pose was locked you would drive right the hell off the road....... Take your foot off the GAS once the Detroit starts to push..... You don't wan't to lock it up on snowy roads..... And yes rain/snow/mud are all OK to put it in 4W....

sounds like the fork is worn. they look fine to the eye, but if there's any play side to side where it mounts to the cable, then you're in for some trouble. just replaced my fork because of this problem. going fine, and all of a sudden you feel a clunk and your front stops pulling. the new fork had no play when i installed it so if yours has any, i would replace it. cheap enough. got mine from 4wd.com (quadratec was backordered). if you get it from them, make sure you order new wear clips for the end as it doesn't automatically come with them.
