My new Jeep/ Build Thread

So finally I saved the money to get my own jeep. Its my first one and Im happy to finally get one. Ok here are the specs:

1993 wrangler islander
5 speed
6 cylinder
125k miles
rebuilt trans put in 2 weeks ago (have all receipts)
Came with hard, soft and bikini top
some metallic blue color and a set of mixed MT tires

The bad:
Front driver fender is rusted pretty well, doesnt matter really cause I plan on buying or builing tube fenders so thats not a problem
Small patch on driver rocker area of rust, its ok will just cut it and put a new piece in
No front bumper, will be making my own VERY shortly
small bubbles in paint under windshield, only part im worried about

Other than that its a solid vehicle. I paid 3700 for it and some will say thats too high and many will say thats cheap. I think its reasonable for the condition of the jeep and how it runs. The guy was asking 4000 grand and we got him down a little. Overall I am very pleased. Here are the only pictures I have right now which are from autotraders website, I will be posting more as I go along with this build and also with take many more pics tomorrow when I pick up the jeep for good.

So to make this a "tech" worthy thread here are the plans/questions/etc:

SOA on OME 2.5" lift springs
JB4x4 steering bracket
Custom made DOM tire rod and drag link
Unsure on axles as of right now but most likely:
-Front either Dana 30 with ARB locker, Chromos and trussed or Dana 44
-Rear either Ford 8.8 with ARB locker and Super 8.8 kit, Dana 44 or posibly Dana 60/Corp 14 bolt possibly
York OBA
Homebrew Front and rear Stinger bumpers
37" IROK Radials, 37" PJ Dirt Grips or some other 37" MT tire, nothing too crazy as this will be driven on the road
Whole inside Herc'd
Cb Radio and other small gadets
Some sort of cage-most likely will be MORE's cage with the frame tie in kit
Eventually Bell-up skid plate
JB SS Slip Yoke kit with CV Driveshafts
MORE front and rear Booms

Those are plans as of right now. Things might change but I dont think they will change too much. This wont happen overnight or this summer as I am a college student and work two jobs, but it will be an on going project and with the help of friends, JF and my step dad I plan to accomplish all the things listed above.

Enjoy and any comments, opinions or suggestions are VERY welcomed. Thanks
And the best part is that my birthday is in 3 weeks so I should get some Jeep goodies

Congrats on your/our new toy! I'm the step dad and I can spend his money easier than my own..... His Mom (my wife) thinks this jeep sickness might be catching! Either way we are going to have a blast spending your money. Again congratulations.

ok now for some updates, here are some pictures of the jeep the day after I got it. Took the hard top off and gave her a good bath. And the front fender is dented because....well..the night I brought it home it was like 11:30 at night and on my property we have a small trail and I wanted to see how it would ride, so i took it on the trail and kinda hit a small tree that I didnt see lol Hitting a tree plus a rusted fender equals a good dent. enjoy

ok some more pictures of the progress I made this weekend, sorry about the fuzzy phone pics, I literally just took these.

My front bumper I built this weekend

The rear bumper I also built this past weekend

How I roll now since it's supposed to rain heavily all week and I dont want my bass and gear to get wet

And finally where I mounted my CB, its small so it fit perfect and does the job. Now just gota get come cable and hook it up to the antenna.

uh...my bad, I built the bumper (cut the material, designed the bumpers, painted and bought the mounts and rings) and my dad welded everything together for me. Oh wait I did weld a little, it was like my second time ever tho lol.

As long as you did some welding and want to learn...soak up as much knowledge as you can. I know I am and am grateful that my father has all the equipment/tools i need to do the job.

yeah I am very grateful, we are both learning each and every time we get in our jeeps. I went wheeling for the first time this past weekend for my birthday and I am officially hooked. I will put up some pictures later. I am so happy with how my jeep performed. Now its onto saving money and gathering the many parts for my SOA build.

You weren't in the RR Gorge were you? I was camping/hiking in there for the last week and saw some Jeeps off in the distance from a rock ledge where I was.
