ok sooooo i found a guy on craigslist that wanted to trade a 87 yj for a "family car soooo gave the guy my moms mini van lol
its a 87 wrangler yj im assuming , dont know too much yet , the first day i had it i could not stop driving the thing , i love the sound of the i-6 which sorta sounds like a diesel to me , well anyway im driving to the airport to pick up a friend and all you here is BOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM the loudest backfire i everyheard in my life , turns out it was the alternator .
ok np the guy i got the car from is a manager at my local autozone sooo got a free alternator , put it on and it ran like a champ until the next day i noticed my lights starting to dim checked the hood , broken alternator belt , lucky i was a block away from a autoparts store and was carrying my tools which i think is a smart idea with this car ,
are there anthing other things i should be expecting from this car ?
i did a tune up already , cleaned carb , air filter , oil change , new plugs , cap and wire are coming in soon
AND WTF ITS SOOOOO COLD IN THIS THING , im driving down the highway and i feel like im in a warzone with all the noise lol but i gotta say it feels good . i just wish i didnt freeze to death

First, it's a Jeep, not a car, and Second, "Jeep" is an acronym for "Just Empty Every Pocket" - you can pretty much depend on spending money on it.

Sounds like your next project is to figure out the heater issue because I know my YJ does a good job of keeping me warm even with all the holes and gaps in it. Can't help you on the noise problem because as rivalarrival put it so well "It's a Jeep, not a car". Have fun with the new toy.
Yeah - scramblered is right, they do put out a lot of heat when they are working right... If you read around, you'll find numerous reports of cracked windshields caused by an overzealous windshield defroster...
welcome to the family! glad to hear you got a jeep and are open minded when it comes to working on it. There are a few basic things that many people do to the carb'd yj's (87-90) to make it run better. try searching for things like nutter bypass, holley carb swap, removing emissions crap (ahem..not that i am in any way suggesting removing emissions requirements, making it illegal).
yea the heaters are good on yj's, is it blowing hot air?
I had a MASSIVE draft problem when I first bought mine. Turned out the cable for the vent on the passenger side kick panel had broken leaving the vent open 100% of the time which really fought my heater in the winter. Reached back and manually flipped the vent closed. No more problem.
P.S. Does your mom know you traded her minivan for the Jeep?
i dont hear it blowing anything , might not even be connected for al i kno but it hasnt gotten cold yet for me to check haha , is it a loud blower? and when i move the knob from cold to hot it just slides right through have a feeling something is broken
and yea she knows hahahah she actually likes the jeep
Welcome to the jeeping family...get ready to be poor, or at least as close as one can get without starving. I'm sure you've noticed there is no end to all the parts, pieces and toys that can bolt, snap or weld onto your new toy. Just remember JEEP also stands for Just-Everyone-Elses-Parts, if you can think of something to do to your jeep, i am sure someone on here has tried it or heard of someone else trying it before. Don't be afraid or ashamed to ask for help.
I had a similar problem when I first got mine, I would turn it on and it wouldnt put out hardly any heat and when it did the motor made this nasty sound...turns out the nut that holds the little hamster whell in place had come loose.
