My custom bumper

Just curious what you think about the custom bumper I built??? Super heavy everything is at least 1/4" steel and it weights about 80 or so lbs... plenty heavy for anything I want to pull around

pretty cool. I think I'm going to build one over christmas break with a tire carrier. One question, I don't know if it's the angle of the pic, but it looks like the hitch sticks way out?

I agree, looks very cool. Just the receiver is gonna be a shin/knee killer.

The hitch sticks 1/2inch out from the spare. I have a lot of A** holes rear end me... not in the Jeep yet.... but if they do I want them to really feel the damage for once. Seriously I've been rearended 6 times in the past 6 years and 4 of those times it was over a grand in damage

The main tube is 1/4" 4x4 steel tube that is capped with 3/8" steel cut into a 4" square piece. As for the mounts they are 12"x4" 3/8 steel with a 2" piece of the 4x4 tube welded on to allow the bumper to be a little away from the frame. The hitch I picked up at my local Draw Tite shop and it was welded to the center of the bumper with (2) 2x4" triangles of 1" steel for support. As for the hook mounts they are each two pieces of 3/8 steel welded together then attached through a hole that was cut into the main tube them welded into place. All this was welded with a Lincoln Wirefeed Welder with about 2 spools of wire. I painted it with this Hammered Finish Rustoleum (spelling??) it really leaves a awsome finish

I had it out this weekend and didn't have any troubles. It looks like it sticks out a lot more than it does in the pic. I guess I could have taken a angle pic or something

Do you have any pics of the bumper being made? I'm going to start on mine the week after Christmas.

I had some pics of it being made but somehow deleted them off my camera. If you want any specific specs let me know and I'll measure it all out for ya

Just takes Practice, practice, practice... I took welding in High School and have just did stuff on my own since. Overtime with a steady hand and a lot of patients you can really create a nice product. And well if you screw it up thats what angle grinders are for

I used 4x4 steel. Got all the steel for nothing. Down the street their tearing down a old firehouse and I could have all the steel I wanted from the hose tower when the knocked it down. Nothing beats free steel

Very nice, I just built a custom front bumper this weekend. Almost free steel here too ($20 for a ton of tubing at the local hardware store)
